Description:

For old layout pre December 2012 - see instructions below for restoring old layout. This method no longer works for me. I don't know any way to restore the old layout.

THIS STYLE IS NOT INTENDED FOR AND DOES NOT WORK ON CURRENT (NORMAL) YOUTUBE. Old layout must be in effect.

For normal YouTube there is my http://freestyler.ws/style/39631/youtube-black-2013 (with options for custom color themes) or my http://freestyler.ws/style/76006/youtube-black-by-freecyber (with no options, for auto-update in Firefox and easier updating in Chrome).

More info
This method to restore the old layout no longer works for me, even when I'm not signed in. I'll leave this style posted in case somebody is able to restore the old layout another way.

Somebody requested I post this style - I myself am using the new layout.

To restore old YouTube layout:

1. open youtube.com in a new tab (this is important, you must be on a YouTube page, not this page)

2. load your browser's developer console:

* Firefox - press Ctrl+Shift+K for Windows/Linux or Command-Option-K for Mac

* Chrome - press Ctrl+Shift+J for Windows/Linux/ChromeOS or Command-Option-J for Mac

* Safari
If the Develop menu does not appear in the menu bar, open Safari preferences, click Advanced, and select “Show Develop menu in menu bar.”
From Develop menu, choose "Show error console"

* Opera - press Ctrl+Shift+I for Windows/Linux or Command-Option-I for Mac, then click "Console"

* Internet Explorer - press F12 and select the "Console" tab.

3. paste the following code which changes a YouTube cookie:

document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=qDpUsBNO0FY;path=/;domain=.youtube.com;expires=Thu, 2 Aug 2020 20:47:11 UTC";window.location.reload();

4. press Enter and close the console.

If this doesn't work and you end up with more than one cookie for youtube.com that has the name "VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE" you may need to delete them and start over.

This information comes from http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2012/10/a-new-youtube-ui-experiment.html , http://swiftor.com/f2/revert-back-old-youtube-layout-58470/ , and http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11926

Just before the layout change I made the style auto-hide the playlist bar. You can find this section by searching for "auto-hide playlist bar" in the code comments and delete that section if you want.
