The tags used are currently in flux. In general, any news site that does not meet a high level of journalistic ethical standards such as SPJ's Code of Ethics is considered fringe or opinion.

Fringe includes sites that engage in fringe conspiracy theories, rumors, gossip, sensationalism, tabloid journalism, propaganda, manufactured/fake news and other ethically dubious behavior.

Opinion includes opinion articles, editorials, sites dedicated to commentary or advocacy. As long as they don't engage in fringe behavior or pretend to be objective, they are marked as opinion.

Please note, certain sites like Washington Post or NYTimes are marked as "Pulitzer" meaning they've won a Pulitzer Prize for Journalism in the last 30 years, but may show up as "Opinion" because the article that is being displayed is actually an editorial or an opinion piece.
